Philosophy
Simple + Easy: a philosophy for learning
Life is simple, but not easy. That’s the idea behind everything I teach.
Two things I try to get right.
Simple
Simple enough to understand. If I can’t make a complicated idea simple, my work on it isn’t finished.
Easy
Easy enough to practise and apply. If you understand it but can’t use it, it isn’t easy yet.
That’s my responsibility as an educator: to make learning both Simple + Easy, using brain-friendly learning that works with how people actually understand.
The path
Learn → Do → Own → Thrive
The path I teach, and the one I try to follow myself.
Learn
Understanding comes first. I work to make ideas simple enough to understand, with the brain in mind.
Do
Doing creates experience. This is where knowing turns into practice.
Own
Owning means the knowledge, skill or behaviour has become part of you. A teacher can’t hand this over. It belongs to the learner.
Thrive
When learning is owned, you can think, apply and grow on your own, and live and work better for it.
The aim
Independence, not dependence.
I can help you understand, and I can show you how to practise. I can’t guarantee you’ll own what I teach. That part is yours.
My goal isn’t to create followers who depend on me. It’s to help learners become capable of thinking, applying and growing independently.
Simple living. High thinking.
Where it’s going
From Learning-to-Learn to Learning-to-Thrive.
The same thinking now runs through Wonder Tree and 1OS, my work on human development.
FAQ
Questions people ask
What is brain-friendly learning?
It means teaching and learning in a way that works with how the brain understands, instead of forcing it through repetition alone. EasyType is an example: it helps the brain understand the keyboard first, then practice follows.
Why do some people learn easily while others struggle with the same information?
This is the question behind most of my work. My view is that it is often about how something is explained and understood, not about ability. That is why I focus on making ideas simple first.
What does “Learn → Do → Own → Thrive” mean?
Learning is where it starts. Doing turns it into experience. Owning means the knowledge, skill or behaviour has become part of you. Thriving is what follows. Knowing doesn’t mean you do, and doing doesn’t mean you own.
Let’s start with a conversation.
Tell me what you’d like to learn, teach or change. I’ll get back to you, and we’ll work out whether and how I can help.
No pressure. Just a conversation.
